Tsing Yi! 青衣!

Have lived on Tsing Yi for a while now and never really looked close to home but yesterday in 1 hour saw:-

Orange-headed Thrush
Tristram's Bunting
Siberian RubyThroat
Japanese Thrush (f) (?)
Red Flanked Blue Tail

plus lots of more common locals.

So it seems we can sometimes save on the bus fare!

Hi, Machick.

Excuse me.  Do you mean the Tsing Yi Park?  If not please enlighten me its location.  Thanks again.

Hi, Machick.

Do you mean somewhere along or near the Tsing Yi Nature Trail, which is also called 青衣回歸徑?

You have a good brain, Cran.

I can find the Nature Trail but there is not a label like 青衣回歸徑 on the map.  Probably a nickname?

Is Mount Haven a convenient entry point?

The trail is about 4 km and probably is worth an hour, exclusive of birding time.

Yes the Nature Trail.
I guess the official name wasted more than just the extra sign-board space!

This spot was near the Tsing Yi West Road Entrance.

Hey guys,

Thanks for letting us know about this site, as I might go there later, could you tell more about whereabout did you guys see the birds? Is it along the main trail route or have to go onto other paths? It seems that many people go there for morning exercise, so what time did you guys went there? Many thanks.

Hi, Cran.

The Nature Trail has both south and north entrances.  You are right that there are some leisure walkers probably at all times.  To avoid them, I stay a bit away from the main trail whenever there is a side pathway.  You do not need to go too far off - some 30-50 meters will be enough to see the birds.  I usually start from the north entrance.   After 10 mins walk,  you will reach the first sheltered resting place where there is a T-junction.  Turn left for a shorter walk (30 mins) or go ahead for the longer one to the south entrance (1 hour).  Good road signs all the way, no worry.  The activity of the birds is no special than anywhere else i.e. more active during dawn and dusk.  Hope the above helps.

Hi Guys,
A couple of spots that seem better.
At the Sth end there is a small banana "farm" if you follow the informal path up to the top of this little valley which is pretty good.

Another area is the forest area around the base of Mt Haven. Then walk up the hill to the main trail that runs along the ridge.

Both of these areas dont have quite as many day walkers.

Thanks machick and kumanfai again for the information. There seems to be quite a few good spots to watch for, unfortunately I couldn't stay longer in the southern end. Except for the thrush, all the others can be easily seen/found along the major trail path, what a surprise.
