I've just been down to Sydney (Australia ) for 8 days and had a wonderful time catching up with family and friends ,but mostly getting out and about checking out my old haunts and finding what the birds have been up to. As it's winter time the honeyeaters have migrated through and will nest in the heathland and the raptors are building nests. Some birds come down off the Blue Mountains to the relatively warmer weather along the coast (eg Rose Robin ).  Most of these photos were taken within 10 mins of my house on the Northern Beaches of Sydney (20k north of the City center ), but some were taken about 1 hours south of the city in the Royal National Park which is probably the best birding spot in the Sydney area. I hope this selection gives you idea of winter birding in Sydney.Neil
The birds are -
Australian Pelicans,Silver gulls,White-faced Heron(flight and on grass),Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos (male top,female below),Tawny-crowned Honeyeater,Yellow-faced honeyeater,New Holland Honeyeater,Willie Wagtail,Chestnut Teal (male and female),Grey Butcherbird,Black Swans (flight),Rose Robin,Yellow Robin,Rock Warbler,Yellow-billed Spoonbill (flight),Laughing Kookaburra,Noisy Miner,Masked Lapwing,Pacific Black Duck,Golden Whistler(female),Common Moorhen,Pheasant Coucal (lifer for me),
Superb Fairy Wrens (male -eclipse plumage/female ).
The first photo is of Dee Why Beach and the mouth of Dee Why Lagoon which I can see from my house and where the Pelican photos were taken.
