Dear all,

Many of you will have already have visited the Asia Red Data Book website, which was launched at the same time as the Threatened birds of Asia: the BirdLife International Red Data Book in 2001. We are pleased to announce that a new version of the website has been developed, and is now available on: http://www.rdb.or.id

The website allows users to view and download the threatened species accounts from the Asia RDB. In the new version, these are available in HTML format, which means that they are much faster to view and download than previously, and it now includes all sections of the book (e.g. the references and gazetteer).

There are several other new features, including a summary of the most noteworthy recent news on threatened birds. Most importantly the website is designed to allow the information on RDB birds to be kept fully up-to-date. A feature called "BirdLife Update" will provide new data gathered by the BirdLife International Secretariat and Asian Partners on threatened birds
and their conservation, and anyone can enter their own new information directly onto the website.

Through these new developments, visitors to the website you will be able to view both the RDB accounts published in 2001 and the new information that has since been added for each species. Whenever you have any new sightings of threatened birds or other information relevant to their conservation please enter it onto the website. With your help, we hope that this will
develop into an essential resource for conservation and birding in Asia.

Best wishes,

Rudyanto
