Farmers at Long Valley suspected that KCRC’s tunneling works had lowered the water table. Sarah Liao said this was caused by the recent dry weather in the Guangdong area, as EPD’s monitoring found that there had been little change in the water level.

【 明 報 專 訊 】 極 具 保 育 價 值 的 淡 水 濕 地 塱 原 ， 疑 因 九 鐵 落 馬 洲 支 線 的 隧 道 鑽 挖 工 程 引 致 地 下 水 位 下 降 ， 令 農 民 叫 苦 連 天 。 不 過 ， 環 境 運 輸 及 工 務 局 長 廖 秀 冬 相 信 ， 水 位 下 降 主 要 是 受 廣 東 省 旱 情 所 致 ， 與 鑽 挖 工 程 無 關 。 九 鐵 及 環 保 署 均 強 調 ， 工 程 展 開 至 今 ， 地 下 水 位 從 未 超 出 監 察 機 制 訂 下 介 乎 0.3 至 0.5 米 的 標 準 。

KCRC is using a new tunneling method to minimize damage to Long Valley: freeze the water in the soil first before excavating the cross passages between the main tunnels. The water table is also being monitored closely at the same time.

【 明 報 專 訊 】 落 馬 洲 支 線 的 隧 道 鑽 挖 工 程 已 於 上 周 五 竣 工 。 鑑 於 塱 原 濕 地 的 生 態 問 題 極 受 關 注 ， 負 責 建 造 工 程 的 九 鐵 ， 採 用 最 先 進 的 「 岩 土 結 冰 法 」 ， 安 裝 急 凍 導 管 將 地 下 水 降 至 零 下 30 度 的 凝 固 狀 態 ， 以 挖 掘 隧 道 間 的 逃 生 通 道 ， 又 大 量 設 置 監 測 站 ， 確 保 地 下 水 及 土 地 絲 毫 無 損 。
