Invitation to meet Dr Jane Goodall Face-to-face in Hong Kong! (27 November 2004, Saturday)
Dear friends and colleagues,
I am very delighted to announce that Jane Goodall PhD, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute (www.janegoodall.org), also a UN Messenger of Peace is visiting Hong Kong from November 26-30. You are now cordially invited to meet Dr Goodall face-to-face and share her inspirations at our school talk and public lecture on 27 November, Saturday. Details as follows:
1. School Talk at Baptist Rainbow Primary School, Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon (see attached file for map)
Venue: Hall, Baptist Rainbow Primary School, Chuk Yuen Road, Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon.
Time: 09.00-10.15 hours
Capacity: 400 pax
Language: Conduct in English with Chinese interpretation
2. Public Lecture at The University of Hong Kong, Pokfulam, Hong Kong (see attached file for map)
Host: Department of Biodiversity & Ecology, The University of Hong Kong
Time: 14.00-17.00 hours
Venue: P4 Theatre, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building, The University of Hong Kong, Pokfulam.
Capacity: 200 pax
Language: Conduct in English

我們所熟知的珍古德，全名為珍•范•勒維克•古德，這位男爵之女，是西元 1934 年 4 月 3 日出生於倫敦，在伯恩茅斯 (Bournemouth) 成長和受教育，並在 18 歲的時候完成高中學業。從很小的時候，她對動物行為便有著極大的興趣。從學校 畢業後，她曾經當過秘書和電影製片助理，後來才有了個機會去非洲旅行。 1957 年，珍到肯亞旅行時，在那裡遇到了古生物及人類學家路易士•李基 (Louis Leaky)。李基發現珍古德非常熱愛非洲物種，因此便聘請她當自己的助理。
1960 年，在李基博士的建議下，珍開始進行一項研究計畫，到坦尚尼亞 (Tanzania) 境內岡貝溪保留區 (Gombe Stream Reserve) 的坦葛尼喀湖 (Lake Tanganyika)，研究棲息於湖區的野生黑猩猩。
由於珍當時過於年輕，她的母親不放心她獨自一人生活，所以兩人便在 1960 年的 7 月，一同抵達岡貝河國家公園 (Gombe Stream National Park)，在那裡與黑猩猩共同生活於牠們的棲息地，開始觀察黑猩猩的行為。不過� o曾經中斷過一段時間的觀察，以便完成她的大學研究報告。她在 1965 年取得劍橋大學的動物行為學博士學位後，便立即返回岡貝河國家公園，並在那裡 成立了一個研究中心，廣收來自世界各地的研究生。
從那時候起，岡貝溪保留區的研究中心在國家公園的保護下，不但成為黑猩猩研究 的中心，也是全球唯一能連續 45 年不間斷地研究黑猩猩族群及譜系學的地方。
珍古德的研究，改正了許多學界原先對黑猩猩的錯誤觀念。比如說，她發現黑猩猩 其實是雜食性動物，而非學者原先所認定的草食性動物。
珍對黑猩猩行為的研究也不遺餘力，她發現黑猩猩會分工合作地分組覓食，並會使 用像是小樹枝等簡單的工具，將白蟻從巢穴裡「釣」出來。
珍目前是國際珍古德協會 (Jane Goodall Institute) 的主持人，與協會一同致力於研究和保護靈長類動物。

太好了，有珍•古德的講座，將帶書到會聽講座及索取簽名！
珍•古德著作的書，也有好些中譯本了，例如：
