天文台：熱帶氣旋命名比賽
聯合國亞洲及太平洋經濟社會委員會及世界氣象組織屬下的颱風委員會循環使用一 套由 14 個亞太國家和地區提供的 140 個具地方色彩的名字，為西北太平洋及中國南海的熱帶氣旋命名。 由香港提供的 10 個名字為「啓德」、「珊珊」、「萬宜」、「玲玲」、「鳳凰」、「欣欣」、「彩 雲」、「婷婷」、「馬鞍」及「榕樹」。自 2000 年至今，除「榕樹」外，其餘 9 個名字已被使用，因此舉辦是次比賽公開徵求具香港特色的名字，以更換其中兩個 香港提名的名字。

Hong Kong Observatory: Tropical Cyclone Name Nomination Contest
A list of tropical cyclone names being used to designate tropical cyclones affecting the western North Pacific and the South China Sea is maintained by the Typhoon Committee - a body consisting of 14 countries/territories under the joint auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the United Nations World Meteorological Organization. The current list consists of 140 names with regional characteristics. Ten of the names in the list were nominated by the HKO in 2000 which included Kai-tak, Shanshan, Man-yi, Lingling, Fung-wong, Yanyan, Choi-wan, Tingting, Ma-on and Banyan. Hitherto, all names provided by Hong Kong except 'Banyan' have been used. This contest invites nominations for names with Hong Kong characteristics to replace 2 current names provided by Hong Kong.

The previous "Fung-wong" (Phoenix in Cantonese) is only a legendary bird. How about some real birds of HK, Sparrow, Black Kite, Egret, BF Spoonbill, Sea Eagle, Tern…?
