Earth Day Fair in Kowloon Park this Saturday 7th May from 13:00

<Environmental Groups Focus on Lantau> in Kowloon Park

Brings friends and your children - meet people and have fun around the Wishing Tree.

Come, get informed while having fun too - Food and Drinks are available on the plazza.

Over 25 community action and nature lovers groups will come together on Saturday May 7th between 1.00pm and 5.00pm to take part in an Earth Day Fair on the Kowloon Park Plazza with exhibitiors focusing in particular on Lantau and the environmental impact
to the island's unique environment posed by recent plans for extensive development there.

In an effort to show the community what may happen to Lantau in the future the participants, who include WWF, Dolphin-watch, Society for the Protection of the Harbour (SPH), Clear The Air, Green Lantau Association, Save Our Shorelines, Living Islands Movement,…. will showcase environmental issues through games and fun aimed at children as well as adults.

A few aspects of developments planned to negatively affect Lantau like the Macau-Zhuhai bridge, the Container Terminal 10, and the Logistics Park, will be
exhibited for all to see, in various booths.

Society for the Protection of the Harbour Chairwoman Christine Loh Kung Wai said “Lantau is a unique environmental treasure as valuable as Victoria Harbour,
we cannot afford to see it damaged through uncoordinated planning”.

The event, jointly organized by the Taipo Environmental Association and Clear The Air brings together a broad range of environmental groups in a rare gathering to encourage community participation in environmental protection. Chairman of Clear the Air Christian Masset said "learning about the Environment through fun and games will help our children and their parents to
see what must be done to protect Hong-Kong’s unique natural heritage".

Opening the event at 1.00pm will be Mr. K.K Kwok, Head of the Environmental Protection Department.

Legislators, Choy So Yuk, Chairman of Legco Panel on Environmental Affairs and

Dr Kwok KaKi will each pronounce a speech and present souvenirs to the various exhibitors.

The Conservancy Association will also announce an Environmental Group Alliance to promote a sustainable vision for Lantau.
