Questions on digiscoping 用數碼相機接望遠鏡拍鳥

Inspired by the excellent images posted by Neil recently, I am very interested to explore this topic further. Hope Neil or other experts out there can help me with the questions below:

1) Regarding the Olympus C-7070wz, apart from more pixels, is this camera signficantly better than the well-known cp4500 in terms of digiscoping? In what areas? Can you explain how one can connect the 7070 to a scope? When digiscoping, is the full zoom setting usuable? At full zoom, are there any vignetting and distortion? Do you need to do any cropping at all on the resultant images for high quality output?

2) I heard that the Canon A95 is also good for digiscoping. How does this camera compare to the C-7070 apart from less pixels? Are there any other significant advantages on the C-7070? I asked because the A95 is much cheaper, smaller and lighter.

3) Is the Nikon cp7900 good for digiscoping? Does this camera has a filter screw thread or bayonet mount for external connections? This camera has 7mp, is very small and light, seems very reasonably priced as well.

Thanks for any advices!

Angus, see this for Nikon combo (in Japanese) ...

English version is not so uptodate and lack the pricing info.

Hope it helps!

cp4500 good as it has small lens & good mirco   so don't use big lens DC.

The choice of cameras for digiscoping is now much wider than before . The CP4500 is very old now (I've had 3 of them) and the Olympus 7070wz is a much better camera all around.  But at the end of the day the scope and the eyepiece are key elements and you must get this sorted out first.  I'm on my second Swarovski scope (as I'm now sponsored by Swarovski they gave me the ATS80HD so bear that in mind when you read my comments) and I had a Kowa non-flourite before that.
The Olympus 7070wz
- has a better lens than the CP4500 with no noticable 'blue fringing'
- it's faster
- better resolution screen
- has RAW mode
- has two card slots
- long battery life (equivalent to about 3 of the CP4500 batteries)
- has better setup of function control using buttons , as well as menus.
- IR Remote - a very usual feature which I use all the time
- Optical viewfinder sits high allowing sighting on the bird down a straight scope
- 7.1 megapixels is big enough for cropping.
I use a Raynox adapter on the camera (48.5 - 52mm) and the Swarovski DCA adapter on the 20-60x zoom eyepiece (52mm). Vignetting disappears about 3/4 on the camera zoom but I usually shoot at full zoom (2.2x optical). I don't know any people using the Nikon CP7900 for digiscoping but I understand it helps if you use all  Nikon gear. A lot of people use the A95 but the Olympus has more functionality and is a bit more robust.
I have the Kyocera SL400R which is a 3 frames/sec , 4 megapixel camera ,internal 3x zoom lens which was my replacement to the CP4500 and it is very fast, but I wanted RAW and more megapixels.
Hope this helps,Neil.
