022 Chinese Pond Heron 池鷺 Mai Po 米埔 24/7/2004 10D + 600 IS + 25mm extension tube This little chick fell from the nest last Sat. It tried to get back to the nest on the tree top (or branches?) but failed with its little undeveloped wings. It kept on warrendering on the ground. Hope the parent will keep feeding it and it will not be found by the wild dog. I am looking Fei to share his shot too. This thread or another thread is welcome. http://www.danielckchan.com/b20040116.jpg

022 Chinese Pond Heron 池鷺 Mai Po 米埔 24/7/2004 10D + 600 IS + EF2x II Here is another shot. It seems looking back to its 'home' or parents. I had failed to get correct exposure of this shot! http://www.danielckchan.com/b20040115.jpg

No, sorry... he or she will die / died. No parents will feed chicks on the ground. Pls understand it is a natural event. Don't advise people to take rescue actions (e.g. put it back on the nest) as it (chicks do not know it is a rescueaction, it is just a disturbance to them) will cause even more chicks fallen from the nests. Sorry about that.

| Caption, Thanks for your advises and sorry for his/her fate. I had left him/her alone with my limited knowledge. There were adult Pond Herons flying around but no feeding was seen. Will it be another Pond Heron chick to force her/him down to the ground? This is not uncommon in the natural world, especially in the birds' nests. Regards

Could be but it seems not too weak (a sign of food shortage, the older one will kick the younger one off the nest if there is shortage of food) So, it could be an accident. Most babies in the world are curious.
