Why are we getting into this sort of debate? After all this is a Photo Gallery for members/guests to share their great photos of birds whether captive or wild, right?! Back to the image ... This is a wonderful image, Vincent! Wished the focus was right on the eye itself. KK Hui ARPS www.geocities.com/kkhui_001

I would like to support KK, this is a Photo Gallery discussion area, whether the bird is captive or wild is irrelevant. Nice photo Vincent Bob

This is the difference between birdwatchers and bird photographers. No birdwatcher would like to see birds in captivity but it doesn't matter for most photographers. What they care is good quality of photos. There is no absolute right here but pls think about the conservation concept behind.

Mr. X, I don't agree with your definition on the two terms but I respect your freedom to form an opinion of your own. Posting a photo here also does not mean encouraging birds capture. On the other hand, what is your opinion on those creatures which has already born for the purpose of comsumption, garment or pet keeping? BTW, do you eat chicken or duck?

Mr. X, I agree with you that I don't want to see birds in cages, but I think Edward Youde Aviary is quite different. Although the area is limited, the birds here can still fly freely. And also many of them are endangered species. One of them is Bali Starling. http://www.birdlife.org/news/pr/2003/11/asia.html

Why we have to keep birds in HK park? What is the purpose of keeping these birds? What kind of message they want to deliver to the visitors after visiting the bird cages in HK Park? How can they answer visitor's questions like "How can I set up my own bird park in my garden after visiting your impressive HK Park bird cages? Do these birds come from the wild or captive breeding farms? Is HK Park a member of some international zoo organization that help to keep and breed endangered spp? As a responsible zoo or bird park, their stock should not be came from the wild. Also, I do not oppose zoo / parks, like Zoological and Botanical Garden in HK, help to conserve endangered spp in captivity. ZBG has a prog to exchange stock with other zoos to avoid in-breeding. So, it is hoped that HK Park is a member of international breeding Bali Starling prog.

This thread is now way off-topic as it stands ... Lots of questions raised by Mr X (whoever his true name is?) could have simply been answered by himself ... It was said and I quote here ... " The concept of large "walk-through" aviary where visitors are surrounded by free flying birds is not new but until recently most such exhibits were populated with birds from various habitats and different geographical areas. The Edward Youde Aviary features birds from a single zoogeographical habitat and thus is educational as well as being of more interest as a passive recreational facility. " Reference at http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/parks/hkp/en/design_concept.php Note: risk of running this further off topic, would moderator please either move or delete this thread! I can see nothing wrong with the aviary in Hong Kong Park or showing photos of the birds there. However I think the norm of this forum is to share photos of wild birds in Hong Kong in a natural setting, not just that the photos were taken in Hong Kong.
