Was close - had to move back 1" coz was at minumim focus - managed to get 6 shots off before he flew off - will be posting others later

A very nice shot with well composition.  I prefer a bit brighter.  
 
Believe that u should have well camouflaged to shoot with 200mm, am I right?

Thanks Daniel - was early morning Sunday when light was very bad & I stupidly didn't use flash.
 
Hide - I am embarrassed  - was a purple coloured tent..... but have modified it now & should be a little less conspicuous  
Will have another try this weekend.... maybe closer

Oh even closer?! Then bring the Nikkor 105 or 200 microlens or a extension tube la.....

Didn't get closer but here's a White-breasted Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) taken 27/08/05 with D70s & Nikkor 80-200mm

That's close enough to me!
I can see some fine scaly lines on the breast.

Scaly breast and yellow bill tip - it was probably born this year. That explains why it's so tame.

Got a pic of him which I'll show in another thread from about 1 month ago, when I would guess he was only a week out of the nest.
This pic was about 2 weeks out (I guess).
Have another pic from Saturday, when I guess he is only about 4 weeks out of the nest.
