When I was preparing the HK photoguide about two years ago, there were confusions in the size of Crested Serpent Eagle.  Basically the South-East Asia field guides suggest that they have significantly smaller size.

Now you can compare the photo from Felixcat to this one by Lin Jianxing.  From the head to body ratio, I think the Jiangxi bird is much bigger.

Love the excellent sharp eye contact! Felix.
Wish there was no shadow on the body. Did you have chance to take some in-flight shot!?

Most of the shots taken in Sandakan were made on boat and one of the disadvantages shooting on boat is lack of control (such as the shadow) though you can get closer to the birds.  This CSE perched on a tree near the river bank more than 1 minute and finally flew back to the forest.  And, I got no in-flight shot

Thanks PL.  May be there is a significant difference of size between the male and female, something not mentioned in fieldguides.
