What is the name of this bird that photo in Taiwan?
As advised by the birdwatchers from Taiwan, it is a Yellow-rumped Flycatcher.

Let me take a guess,
the tiny brwon collar along with pale orange/yellow lower mandible base make me take a guess of Red-throated Flycatcher race albicilla. It looks like a female but the white spot on wing covert and pale orange color on the throat of the last photo may suggest a juvenile male.

Is that any other opinion?

Gary

I think it is either a Narcissus F. narcissina or Green-backed F. elisae Flycatcher.  The combination of dull rufous tail and upper tail coverts, olive-brown upperparts, uniform tertials, rather unifrom underparts, all dark bill and narrow eyering elimate all other possibilities including Yellow-rumped and Red-throated Flycatchers.  This bird would appear to be a first-winter based on the pale tips to the greater coverts.  I do not think that the separation of first-winter elisae and narcissina is well known, and there is also the complication of the recently described Beijing Flycatcher, which would appear to be very closely to elisae, and unknown in first-winter plumage.  For what it is worth this bird looks very similar to female Narcissus I have seen in HK in spring.

Paul,
The bird in the photo appeared to have blue wing coverts and a rufous tail base. I would like to ask whether a narcissus could show these features? Thank you.

Koel,

When you refer to blue on the wing coverts, which coverts do you mean.  I can see no blue whatsoever in the photographs.  The tail colour fits Narcissus.

Paul,
Thanks for your reply. In my monitor the primary coverts and greater coverts all appeared to have a bluish grey hue, and so is the scapulars to a lesser extent.

I have looked at the pictures on another monitor, and still see no blue in the pluamge of this bird.  It still looks like a female Narcissus/Green-backed Flycatcher to me.

I also don't see blue as such, though there appears to be a lighting effect that might, on some monitors (I presume), appear more blue.

It also looks to me like a Narcissus female.

I too see blue on my monitor.

Could it be that it is a pigment of the imagination?

Hard to judge without breaking down into details. Please see below. Both bill and wing show blue color in the image, does it imply anything?
