436 Crested Myna 八哥
Tai Po Bride's Pool 大埔新娘潭
12/9/2003
Three to four brownish birds (two different kinds???) were seen at Tai Po Bride's Pool country park on 12/9/2003. They were seen on BBQ glassland/tree (down the valley) near to the river (and bridge). Were they the same? Would they be Crested Myna? But there was no obvious feather between bill and forehead. The bill looked thicker. The colour was brownish and white too. It was quite different from the "black crested myna" I had seen. The fourth photo showed a "darker" mask around eye (not in shadow). They should not be black bird because there were obvious white feathers near the back.

you are right . Thy are juvenile Crested Mynah. Young birds sho no crest.

Thanks a lot.

But I just wonder why the "crest" is not there. When will the "crest" be seen? Adult only? I read from book that the "crest" may disappear if the bird is changing to new feather. When will this be?
