Title: What is it?
Post by A Newbie on Oct 28th, 2003, 1:04am
A HK guy posted the following image to a digital photo newsgroup, together with spotted dove and some other doves.

What can it be? I really have no idea.

It's a Celebes (Sulawesi) Magpie. They can be seen in the aviary at Hong Kong Park.

Mike Turnbull, Julian Chan, Sian Wei Wong, Jameson Ashworth and Angus Luk, Island School.

Hi A Newbie,

Do you know where and when the photo was taken?
Please provide the location and the date of the photo.

Regards

This is also known as White-necked Myna in "Birds of Wallacea";  - Streptocitta albicollis is the latin name.

It is fairly common in the Nature Reserves at Tangkoko and Dumoga Bone ( in Northern Sulawesi ).  However, that race has an all-black bill.  This specimen will be from southern Sulawesi ; the bill has a yellow tip.

Thanks to you all.

I don't know where and when that guy took the photo.

But I can also remember that I have seen this in aviary at Hong Kong Park.

Anyway, it is interesting to study more about it.
