We first heard a continuous "tack-tack" sound from the dense bamboo undergrowth. After a long observation, it was obvious that there was a adult bird with young. Since the adult was very agile and we were unable to photograph it, but only manage to capture the chick instead. The size was about 3.5" with a very short tail, the bill was in bright yellow.

A single bird was heard at the same spot with a similar call as the above bird this summer. As from the photos, this bird is obviously of a different age (older) than the above chick. But both of them had a dirty yellowish belly and had a similar call. We are wondering whether these 2 are the same species ? Would it be a Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler ? As we also heard "Chi......wi-you" at the same site !? Any clue ? Thanks in advance for the help.

I agree that these are Brownish-flanked Bush Warblers - first breeding record for Hong Kong!

Well done for finding the birds and getting such excellent photographs. This should be written up with your photographs for the Bird Report. Please could you submit all the details the the Records Committee as you would if it was a rare bird.

Sorry - I did not read the captions properly - I now see that the last photo is from this year: even better - first two breeding records for Hong Kong!
