Title: Re: Please help to ID Post by camel on Jun 17th, 2004, 10:04pm Looks like Gull-billed terns to me as well. They are passage migrant that usually come thru' Deep Bay in Apr/May time. Common terns that look similar (but smaller with longer tail feathers) usually come thru' around Aug/Sep. Would experts pls help verify my guess. |

Title: Re: Please help to ID Post by Michael_Leven on Jun 21st, 2004, 12:15pm I agree that the two birds standing sideways on and the single bird in the photo are Gull-billed Terns - neat back cap, fairly heavy and relatively short all-black bill, light-mid grey upperparts, pure white underparts and short (for a tern) tail. I am not sure about the middle bird in the first photo (facing the camera). It is in partial winter plumage (which doesn't help) but is it also a little smaller and the bill a little finer?
