Mei Po - BH8
11/09/2004

I saw this bird several times outside BH8.  From the beak sharp, it looks like a plover but with a black legs ??? Please help identify.

Is this Oriental Plover (紅胸(行鳥)) ???

Dear Felix,

I think it is a juvenile Lesser Sand Plover. Short bill, 'large head, small body' are well shown in your picture. Greater Sand Plover has a longer bill and body.

Issac: Oriental Plover has more longer wings, slimmer body and longer and thinner bill.

Issac, I thought it was Oriental Plover but its black legs tell me it should other plovers.
