Title: House Crow?
Post by bfspoonbill on Dec 13th, 2004, 12:47am
Previously, I said there were Jungle Crows (Large-Billed Crows) in Riveria Gardens of Tsuen Wan. Actually, I was in doubt because their sizes were smaller than Magpie but much larger (longer) than Crested Myna. I did try to ignore Cat. E birds from guessing. Finally, I could take some photos of one of them.

I think they should be House Crows. Right? They often brought with them sticks in mouth during flight. So, they (a group of about six) should be residents in that area.

These are indeed House Crows. This is, I believe, the first time that such a large group has been reported in Tsuen Wan. It is further evidence of the spread of this invasive and potentially destructive species.

If anybody else notices this species in other new localities, please report location and numbers to the bulletin board.

Thx,

Geoff Carey

this is very worrying indeed. isn't the AFCD supposed to be stopping or carrying some sort of measures to stop them from spreading?!!

Worst of all, people gave them bread to eat in the early morning on Podium B. They have been there for over one year. Yes, crested myna and black collar starling were forced to leave the garden since their settling there. But it was strange that some crested myna stood a bit farther away that morning. The nests of house crows should be on two trees around the ticketing office and the basketball playground, of the tennis court.
