Title: Status of 2 species query Post by Andrew_H on Apr 10th, 2005, 1:34pm I'm not sure which forum to use for this question - sorry. One bird I don't recall seeing at Mai Po last time I birded there on and off (97-99) is Azure-winged magpie. However I have seen a group of 3 birds on a couple of occasions recently. I think I read in Avifauna of HK that it is a Cat E bird. What is its status now? Secondly. I saw an Oriental cuckoo at Mai Po yesterday (april 9th 2005) and this is in the Avifauna of HK as a scarce passage migrant. The timing of the sighting seems to correspond with the expected peak of appearance in HK. How scarce is this species these days? TIA Andre |

Title: Re: Status of 2 species query Post by Mike Kilburn on Apr 14th, 2005, 2:18pm Azure-winged Magpies at Mai Po are also escapes. They've been established here for a couple of years and have spread to Mai Po Sun Tsuen Village, and I even have one record from Ng Tung Chai. Oriental Cuckoo is seem in small numbers every year (but sometimes very small numbers). Cheers Mike k |
