Title: 黃眉姬鶲分種 "Narcissus" Flycatcher split
Post by HKBWS Project on Aug 2nd, 2005, 12:16pm
After a long and actually rather wonderful process, we have put together an online paper looking at the beautiful but little known narcissina, owstoni and elisae Ficedula flycatchers.

This paper is now posted on the Birds Korea website, at:
http://www.birdskorea.org/narcissustypes.asp

Although all three of these stunning taxa are still considered to be part of Narcissus Flycatcher Ficedula narcissina by most birders (mostly perhaps as there is so little information available on them?) it is fairly obvious that the three are actually really rather different - with apparently consistent differences between narcissina, elisae and owstoni in structure; in male and (most) female-type plumages; in breeding and non-breeding ranges; in breeding habitat; and even it is believed, in songs.  The paper, already with almost 50 images from several countries of the region (inc. Korea, Japan, China, the Philippines and Malaysia), looks at the status and distribution of all three taxa (with a focus on South Korea) as well as at their identification.
