Title: Re: 鳳頭蜂鷹?黑鳶? Honey Buzzard? Black-eared Kite Post by Koel_Ko on Aug 25th, 2005, 2:37pm Does look like Honey Buzzard... But given location, time and the quality and angle of photo, I think the possibility of Black-eared Kite should be considered as well... ;) Also note the sharpness of the wing (angle possible, but still sharp at Primaries) and hint of crescent on the dark underwing, suggestive of the Kite. |

Title: Re: 鳳頭蜂鷹?黑鳶? Honey Buzzard? Black-eared Kite Post by David_Diskin on Aug 30th, 2005, 10:43pm It's an interesting photograph but you need to bear in mind that at this time of the year many Black-eared Kites are moulting. When they moult their tail feathers, B-eared Kites can appear very confusing, as they can totally lose their fork-tailed appearance and appear very much as they do in the photograph. I saw a B-eared Kite with a similar looking tail at Ma On Shan three weeks back. dave diskin |
