Yes - first one I've heard of this year.

Its the only pipit in Hong Kong likely to be found in and around trees. The other name for it is Indian Tree Pipit.

The others - Richard's, Red-throated, and when its around Buff-bellied, and the rare Pechora are wetland and/or farmland birds, and Upland Pipit is a montane grassland specialist.

I think this is a Pechora Pipit, not an Olive-backed.  Structurally it is a medium-sized, upright and long-legged pipit.  In terms of plumage the crown feathers show obvious broad dark centres reaching to the bill (OBP shows finer streaking on the crown and typically shows an unmarked forecrown and often has a dark shadow above the super); the supercilium is off-white (should be buff in front of the eye in OBP); the malars are very broad forming a black triangle at the base (thinner in OBP); the strong buff wash to the breast and flanks is very rarely shown in OBP but typical of Pechora; the is no visable white in the tail (OBP has more white in the tail than Pechora); and crucially, the tips to greater and median coverts (just showing on the left hand side of the bird) are broad and white (would be narrow and buff on an autumn OBP).

Happy to be corrected.

Any other angles of this bird Neil - it would be very interesting to see them in th elight of Paul's comments.

Cheers
