This duck flew in amongst the waders on Wednesday.  I'm going with female Pintail. Can someone confirm for me? Neil.

it is a northern pintail

It is an eclispe male, note the uniformly grey lesser and median coverts, and broad buff tips to the otherwise grey greater coverts and the broad white tips to the speculum.  You can also see the very start of winter pluamge appearing on the lower cheeks
