Photos taken today at Long Valley. Size slightly larger than Yellow-breasted Bunting, heavier body and larger bill. No white on the tail. I think this is a Black-headed Bunting female (or Red-headed, or juvenile). Would anyone like to comment. Apologies for the picture quality, taken with an ordinary digital camera.

Looks good to me.

The bottom photo hints at a dark hood, and slight contrast between the throat and greyer cheeks which to me suggests Black-headed rather than Red-headed, but I would be interested to hear other views.

I agree, additional photos sent to me by Graham Talbot show the classic crown pattern with streaking extending onto the forecrown (unstreaked forecrown in Red-headed).
