Title: Re: Bird ID Please~ Post by Katherine on Dec 8th, 2005, 8:57am It looks like a Citrine Wagtail !? |

Title: Re: Bird ID Please~ Post by little_dolphin on Dec 8th, 2005, 11:21am But citrine wagtails have yellow underparts. Besides, only white wagtails have the black patch on their breasts. I think this is a juvenile bird of the ocularis subspecies of white wagtail (scientific name Motacilla alba ocularis) because of the black eyestripe without white primaries. By the way, juvenile white wagtails may have some weird colours like yellow. |

I also think that was a white wagtail ocularis because of the black patch on its breast......but I am not too sure since there was some yellow colour on its face........ |

Title: Re: Bird ID Please~ Post by Gary on Dec 9th, 2005, 3:15pm I think it's a first-winter female White Wagtail sub-species ocularis. Some female White Wagtail show a buffy brows and chin in winter plumage. It's not a citrine wagtail as the birds show a dark eye stripe and upper breast patch. :) Gary |

Title: Re: Bird ID Please~ Post by zep on Dec 9th, 2005, 8:59pm This is very similar to the thread on p. 5 discussing Anonymous Guy's picture. The arguments are given there for white wagtail - the black breast patch is diagnostic, in spite of the rather atypical yellow colour. |
