Title: Unsure goshawk on Lamma?
Post by Neil on Dec 9th, 2005, 6:52am
There was a pair of these Goshawks frying around Lamma Island yesterday. Is is a Crested Goshawk?

This is a classic Crested Goshawk pose - the fluffy white undertail coverts make identification relatively straightforward.

Often the undertail coverts are fluffed out like this when the bird is displaying - short flicking wingbeats followed by a short glide, and then the short flicking wingbeats again.

Cheers

Thanks Mike.  As there were two of them circling around and landing in a tree together then maybe they were displaying.Neil.
