Hi, Owlet-nightjar. Thanks for your correction. Would you mind telling me how to distinguish the two? (I just tried to estimate the size of the bird from the photo and found it more close to that of the Plaintive Cuckoo which is smaller than the Oriental Cuckoo. But is there any further field marks confirming its ID?) Thanks. Cheers Fred |

Plaintive Cuckoo is a darker brown colour on the belly and Oriental Cuckoo has a paler belly with thicker bars. Plaintive doesn't have the prominent yellowish eye-rings. The base of the bill is darker and the bill is slimmer than Oriental Cuckoo. I wonder if it is a female, as I could see eye-stripes. May be others can help to point out more features or correct me. |
