Nikon D70, lens 300mm VR f2.8
Captured: 08 Feb. 2006

Can someone make an ID on those birds.
I guess it's a kind of Terns.
I captured them in Sai Kung harbour.

They are plovers, not terns. I'd say they are Little Ringed Plover, because of the a complete white collar around the neck of each bird and a complete black breast band beneath the white collar.

Thanks for the reply, I also found them too small.
They suddently show up and settle down on the rocks. But a beautiful scenery to see them flying around.

Actually they look like Kentish - note absence of eyering, black feet, reddish crown on a few of them, and if you zoom the pic in the breastband is incomplete.

I think they're Kentish too - small nos. are fairly regular during migration periods at least, just east of Sai Kung harbour at the beach off the old Beach Resort Hotel.

Of course any picture you might have showing the upperwing would clinch this - Kentish has a wing-bar and LRP does not.

I have checked how a Kentish look like and Koel_Ko seems to be right.
