Could these be Bright-capped? At least 2 different birds are involved. On Po Toi today, but they have been there since 16th February. They are in a small patch of grassland as seen in the first picture.

Yes, I think they are Bright-capped - the face looks odd for Zitting, being rather plain (with a complete absence of zits! [joke: zit=greasy spot on face, in English slang]), the upperparts don't look well-marked enough, the tail looks to be longer than in Zittings I've seen recently, and also there's the striking unmarked extensive nape patch.  The last feature is not one I've noticed really on Bright-capped, but I've mostly seen them in autumn in HK, and it is a feature the books mention.

Perhaps wrong - I seem to remember some discussion of shots of a cisticola a few months back, so I'd be interested in hearing from others.

Btw, Gentleman Geoff Welch, thanks for finding the CST on Po Toi - one of the best birds in HK in many a year!

Mike Turnbull.

Thanks Mike but you should really thank the bird itself (the CST I mean).

That bird has stellar quality. It looks good and it knows it. It pretends to be shy but poses for photographs. And it has stayed around long enough to make sure everyone sees it. I think it must be a female!

Having said that, I guess I will lose the title Gentleman.
