I think I saw this bird earlier and was told that it was a Red-necked Stint. I would agree as a Little Stint should have a white throat.

See if the experts would concur. :)

I agree thta this is a typical Red-necked Stint - the white throat is one good feature at this time of year, but there are also other rather subtle features which are difficult to see without good views in the field. Some of the best birders in Britain actually mistook a Sanderling for Britain's first Red-necked Stint a few years ago!!

Structure: Little has a finer and more pointed bill and seems to me to stand with its body more horiontal to the ground.

The colour is a different shade of red to Red-necked Stint - it is slightly more orange (Red-necked is is slightly pinker red in my opinion).

Little has two clear yellow "Tram lines" down the back which this view does not sho w - they are rarely as clear (if present at all) on on Red-necked.

Hope this is helpful - it's not always possible to separate birds inthe field even with good views but spring plumage gives you the best opportunity.

Little Stint des occur every year in small numbers and the best chance to find one is when you can make a direct comparison with Red-necked Stints.
