Title: Please identify
Post by HKBWS Project on Jun 17th, 2006, 3:05pm
Dear HKBWS Memebers,

When I lectured last summer (May and June) at Xi'an International Studies University, I was struck by the exquisite song of a particular bird on campus. It was the most melodious and beautiful bird song I have ever heard. The bird always seemed to perch as high as possible, either in the canopy of the tallest and oldest sycamore trees or on the top outward edges (affording a broad vantage point no
doubt) of taller university buildings. It was very hard for me to get a good, long look at this bird. But, from the glimpses I had, it appeared to be a plain black bird about the size of a North American Robin and with no particularly long tail feathers or other special distinguishing features. I could not tell if it had an eye ring or not, never really having sen it that well. Among the bird song recordings on your list, it seems that the Hwamei sounds somewhat similar, but not really the same. I wonder if you can identify this bird for me.

Thank you.
