Title: Unknown Bird at Wet Land Park

Two similar birds were seen at Mudflat Hide of the Wet Land Park this afternoon. They were more or less the size of spotted dove. The tail would flap up and down slightly while walking, but not as much as a wagtail. Were they Lapwing? But the side of the bird did not look like the Lapwing taken by other photographic professionals. Sorry, my simple DC was too bad to give clearer photos. My 8X binocular could not help to give a clear ID too, because they were too small.

hi bfspoonbill,

I also visited the bird hide in sat. afternoon. I saw a yellow wagtail!! (Maybe one of the birds you saw was it). If looking at the 4th photo, it likes a white wagtail.

This is a White Wagtail. A small number of them breed in HK in Summer. Yellow Wagtail is a strict migrant and winter visitor. It would be an important bird watching record if Yellow Wagtail is seen in HK at this time. The earliest Yellow Wagtail will come back to HK in Late August.

Thanks Walter and HF. Thanks to Billman's photo in Gallery I (http://www.hkbws.org.hk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=PhotoGallery;action=display;num=1151033247). The White Wagtail in June looks quite different from the b&w pattern I use to see.
