Besides colour of leg (pale greenish and yellowish) as well as overall colour tone (greyish and brownish in the same noon sunlight condition - confusion by automatic white balance?), the circled parts also looked different. Are they two different species? What are they? |

Sorry, it's hard for me to match it to Grey-tailed Tattler in Birds of HK & S China book, because the colour looks grey in book. Can you suggest field marks? http://everwell.dynu.com:3880/BirdWatching/Unknown-MPNR-20060927/P9270116-as.jpg http://everwell.dynu.com:3880/BirdWatching/Unknown-MPNR-20060927/P9270141-as.jpg Is this different? http://everwell.dynu.com:3880/BirdWatching/Unknown-MPNR-20060927/P9270136-as.jpg |

Title: Re: What kind(s) of shank are they? 是甚麼鷸呢? Post by miket on Oct 3rd, 2006, 6:27pm Hi Paul, You are right, I'm sure. It was a rather hasty call. The white-fringed, black-spotted tertials and other upperpart markings are typical of Redshank, and the tibia are too long for Tattlers. Mike |
