Title: Japanese Waxwing
Post by Forrest FONG on Oct 5th, 2002, 8:45am
Some birders reported that a Japanese Wax Wing 小太平鳥 was seen in Long Valley on this Friday and in the morning and the late evening yesterday. :o

Hey, don't just sit in front of your computer.  Go out to find it and make one more tick. ;D

Please also don't forget to use the hotlines to report the sighting of rare or good birds and listen the latest birding news from other members!

Unfortunately this bird shows clear signs of cage damage - especially on the neck where featehres ahve been rubbed away. It is very unlikely this bird will be accepted asa  genuine wild bird.

However the Rosy Starling ios almost certainly wild. This species has had a huge eruption to western Europe from its traditional breeding grounds in Central Asia and its not unliely the eruption has spread to Hong Kong.

Also even if the Waxwing is an escape the Daurian Starling Flock is the highest ever recorded n Hong Kong aand it well worth ta visit to Long Valley.
