Title: Ma On Shan to Sai Kung
Post by Tytler on Dec 21st, 2002, 10:47pm
Today 21/12/02 I saw the following birds at the location aforementioned:

1 Besra
6 Yellow-rumped Warblers
2 Bright-capped Cisticolas at Ngong Ping  ???

I am not at all sure if the two cisticolas are birght-capped or not, and I hope the following description may be diagnostic to a certain extent. The bird I saw was overall straw-fawn with crown and back boldly streaked with black and greyish-blue. Legs fleshy. Face with no apparent contrast except a faint grey crescent behind the ear coverts. Bill flesh, medium in length. Neck cold greyish-fawn. Tail uniform with dull greyish tip, shorter than that of a Prinia, kept being fanned as the bird stood on a grass stem.  Clear rufous wash to flanks and flanks only, contrasting with off-white belly. Since the range was not close enough and the bird was shy and kept dropping back into cover, no spectacular view was obtained. The area in which the two birds were noted was a stretch of long grassland waist-high, at about 250m.
Comments are delightfully appreciated.
