Title: Re: Kowloon Park Post by Mike Kilburn on Apr 10th, 2003, 12:40am Hi Koel and others I also had a good day in Kowloon Park: 1 White-breasted Waterhen 2 Barn Swallow 1 Chestnut Bubul 1 Japanese Thrush (male) 3 Grey-cheeked Thrush 1 Arctic Warbler 2 Pale-legged Leaf Warbler 5 Yellow-browed Warbler 5 Asian Brown Flycatcher 1 Red-throated Flycatcher (female) 1 Narcissus Flycatcher (male!!!) 18 Chinese Starling (White-shouldered) 3 Chestnut tailed Starling Plus a White-eye feeding green catrepillars to two newly fledged juveniles (no tails) The best sites were the conservation area behind the mosque near Exit A of MTR (thrushes and warblers) and the Chinese Garden to the north of the maze. In this area the best spot was the first tree on the small narrow hill close to the pond. All three flycatchers were here. It seems there are lots of Chinese starling right now. Don't forget to check for Daurian and Chestnut-eared Starlings! I was here for almost three hours - but it was well worth it! Cheers Mike |

Title: Re: Kowloon Park Post by Koel_Ko on Apr 11th, 2003, 3:45pm A great day, Mike!! Today the Red-throated Flycatcher was seen again, along with 2 Asian Browns. The Narcissus was probably gone, but there was a calling Plaintive Cuckoo behind the mosque. As for the 2 Pale-legged Leaf Warbler, actually is it possible that they were Sakhalin Warblers (I could only tell that they were not Arctics, by virtue of the contrasting crown) ? What are the criteria for separating the 2? |
