Title: more in Ng Tung Chai
Post by Mike Kilburn on Nov 29th, 2003, 2:00pm
This morning I walked the complete Ng Tung Chai loop - up the steep path to the lookout point , past the top of the big waterfall and back to the village between 0730 and 12:30.  They were several, sometimes noisy, groups on the trail

Crested Goshawk 1  in display flight
Mountain Bulbul 2
Chestnut Bulbul - seemed to be everywhere

Slaty-backed Forktail 1  200m upstream from top of big falls
Red-flanked Bluetail - 6

Russet Bush Warbler -1
Mountain Bush Warbler - 1
Asian Stubtail - 6
Pallas Warbler - 10

Hainan Blue Flycatcher 1 male

Grey-cheeked Fulvetta - 2

Grey Treepie (h)

I too was in Ng Tung Chai this morning:  0700h - 0945 h, up to Middle Falls and back.

Like Mike K., I had Mountain Bulbul, Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler (let's try to use the current standard vernacular names!), sev. Stubtails, Fulvettas, Treepie. Also two Lesser Shortwings singing, a Pygmy Wren Babbler (which to my ear simply repeats perfectly its second note,  thus giving the three-note song Mike K. reported yesterday), two Mountain Tailorbirds (heard), Scaly Thrush, Grey-backed Thrush, Blyth's Leaf Warbler (apparently fokiensis) and a White-throated Fantail - not a White-browed as I mistakenly reported to Birdline.
This bird, whatever its origins, is in perfect condition, and (this does not sound good) was actually seen within the monastery compound, in the barish bushes in front of the the big orange/pink wall just inside the entrance.
