Final birding in NTC for me in 2003. 0800 - 1500 From village to lookout via waterfalls and return the same way:

Blue-and-white Flycatcher (immature male) v unusual winter record
Mountain Bush Warbler (Browish-flanked) 2
Goodsoni-type Blyth's Leaf Warbler - 1

Striated Yuhina 30

Lesser Shortwing 2 heard
Red-flanked Bluetail - 2

Pygmy Wren Babbler - 1 heard 1 seen v briefly

White's Thrush - 3 (2 v close to village)
Grey Thrush - 2
Grey-backed Thrush - 8
Blue Whistling Thrush - 1 heard

Grey Treepie - 1 heard

Tristram's Bunting - 1

A postscript to my previous message:

As I left the village to go to town this evening I saw a Brown Thrush in a fruiting tree along the foot path (not the road) down to the Lam Kam Highway about 100m from the village square.

Directions: From the village square find the toilet block and turn left. The road narrows to a path before turning lright and starts to drop downhill. The fruiting tree is by a burned area and next to a small house painted bright blue.

Lots of bulbuls also use this tree and I have seen Red-throated Flycatcher , Azure-winged Magpie, Daurian Redstart and Rubythroat on the burned patch in the last week. Also I have twice heard a Russet Bush Warbler singing nearby.

The bird was only seen with the naked eye but at close range. It had a borad orange-red breast and flanks with a narrow v of white which broadedned towrds the underatil coverts.

It also had a brownish back and head and similarcoloured throat, which showed no sign of any contrast from malar stripes or supercilia. The bill looked yellow.

This was not the same bird as I saw with the Kwans, which Geoff identified as Grey-backed Thrush. However I have benefitted from seeing that bird as it has helped to clarify the ID of this Brown Thrush for me.
