Title: koel attacks spotted doves

A mother spotted dove has given birth to two chicks. Their nest is on a tree just outside my home. For the past 5 days, a male koel has been coming to attack the doves, sometimes more than once on the same day. They were all planned attacks -- the koel flew straight to a branch near the nest, found an opportune time and position, then attacked.
Can anyone tell me why the koel attacked the doves, and was so persistent even though the first few attempts failed?

Puzzled. ???
