During a talk given by the British Trust for Ornithology last Tuesday, I learnt that they organize many studies based on records submitted by birdwatchers all over U.K. Examples include Breeding Bird Survey, Migration Watch and Garden BirdWatch. An idea that I find interesting is to present records of migrants in an animated map, which shows at a glance when the birds arrive and how are they distributed over the country. Here is an example on Bard Swallows: http://blx1.bto.org/smw-dailyresults/results/anim-322-04.html (Click the Play button below the map to start) |
