I am planning a trip in mid-Feb 2005 (after Chinese New Year) and looking for information about birding in Hokaido. Apart from general sightseeing in Sapporo, I hope to spend a few days in Kushiro ³©¸ô for visiting the national parks and wetlands there.

I would be grateful if you share your birding experience there. Up to now, I have some preliminary information from the web :

Some info from a friend in Kushiro last year. :)

"You can see Tancho dance in early March, also, Ezo Deer.
The place for watching tancho is Trumidai(Åb¨£¥x¡^¡BTanchonosato¡]¤¦³»の¨½¡^
Ito Tancho Sanctuary¡]¥ìÃÃ¤¦³»sanctuary)
You can find sleeping Tancho with one leg at Otowa Bridge(µ¦Ð¾ô¡^
Tancho dance (¨D·RDance¡^is usually start from mid February to early March.
Temperature is about minus 10 in the lowest, plus 7 in the highest.

But, it is very difficult to see White tail Eagle in Nemuro in March.
Because it is very warm winter this year, Lake Furen's ice would start to melt
in the end of this month.
¡@In the coldest season, there is fisherman's fishing on Lake Furen(making hole in the ice)
at that time, many eagles gather for their fishes to catch."
