Yesterday was very good for birds at Kam Tin:
Japanese Yellow Bunting (N of Shui Mei village)
Himalayan Swiftlet (fishponds near Shui Mei village)

Both of these showing very well - the swiftlet was seen to a distance of about 1m! Neither was found this morning.

4+ red-rumped swallows
several white-shouldered starlings

Nearby at Sha Po:
3 Asian House Martins
2 Red-rumped swallows

Unfortunately the day was made worse by the discovery that soil is once again being dumped in the buffalo fields. I have spoken to the town planning department and this area is zoned as village land which means land filling here is not illegal.
This is one of the best parts of Kam Tin for snipe during the winter, and sometimes also Greater Painted-snipe. I will keep an eye open to make sure the filling does not continue further into the Buffalo Fields!

Excellent photos!

These two birds were present near the hills behind Kam Tin on Tuesday evening and again on Wednesday and were giving excellent views (less than 5m in the car, and about 10m on foot!)  Unfortunately I didn't have a camera to get good photos of the birds. I looked again in the same area yesterday but couldn't find them - obviously you had more luck!

There was a sharp-tailed sandpiper near the buffalo fields yesterday.

Also, it appears that white-cheeked starlings are attempting to nest at Kam Tin this year, with several pairs of white-shouldered. This would be the first time white-cheeked starling has nested in HK!
