only one female was found among Tufted Duck this afternon.

As far as I know, this is potentially the first record for Guangdong. It seems rare (possibly overlooked) on the China coast. La Touche reported a female shot at Fuzhou, Fujian in November 1918.

Worth looking for among the Tufted Duck off Tsim Bei Tsui and Mong Tseng! :)

The Long-tailed Duck was seen again yesterday afternoon (24 Jan) on the Shenzhen side of Deep Bay by Karen Barretto and me and several members of the Shenzhen BWS including Zhong Gaofeng.

It came in on the high tide with a small group of Tufted Ducks and showed fairly well for about 20 minutes before drifting off into the distance. Zhong Gaofeng also saw it at about 3 pm the previous day.

Other waterbirds we saw included thousands of Shovelers, 1600 Tufted Duck, 100+ Great Crested Grebes and 2 Black-necked Grebes (5 seen there at the weekend).

The viewing point is the Futien Mangrove Ecological Park, which is easy to get to from HK (about half an hour  by shuttle bus and taxi from Lok Ma Chau).

A huge thank you to Shenzhen BWS members for quickly passing on news of the bird to HKBWS members and also for giving a warm welcome to Karen and me.

Thanks also to Yu Yat Tung for helping set up our visit.

香港－罗湖关：可搭乘地铁到竹子林站下车（约人民币10元），转的士到海滨生态公园约13元。直接从罗湖搭的士约40元。

香港－皇岗关：搭的士到海滨生态公园约需15分钟，约人民币20元。

Crossing border via Lowu, Hong Kong

1) Shenzhen MTR Luohu (Lowu) station to Zhu Zi Lin (竹子林 ) Station,       4 RMB a single journey, and then get a taxi to the Futien Mangrove Ecological Park, taxi fare is about 13 RMB.

2) Taxi fare from Luohu (Lowu) to Futien Mangrove Ecological Park is about 40 RMB.

Crossing the border via Lok Ma Chau, Hong Kong  to Huang Gong, Shenzhen.

Taxi to Futien Mangrove Ecological Park is about 20 RMB and takes 15 mins.
(But, we paid 30RMB)

The Long-tailed Duck was again seen at around 13:50 - 15:00, with a small group of Tufted Duck.
