Title: Japanese Bush Warblers at Tai Mo Shan 大霧山日本樹鶯 Post by AuntieHandkerchief on May 20th, 2006, 9:56pm At least 3 skulking birds at different sites with song very similar to Japanese Bush warbler was heard today in Tai Mo Shan between 750-850meter at 1-3pm. Did I make any mistake or do they migrate so late? I have a very crude sound recording from my DC - can I upload it for sharing? Uncletall |

Title: Re: Japanese Bush Warblers at Tai Mo Shan Post by miket on May 20th, 2006, 11:25pm Uncle Tall, Have you considered Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler (aka, Mountain or Strong-footed Bush Warbler) Cettia fortipes? There are at least three holding territories up there and the song is similar to Japanese Bush Warbler. Mike Turnbull |

Title: Re: Japanese Bush Warblers at Tai Mo Shan Post by AuntieHandkerchief on May 21st, 2006, 8:11pm Thanks Mike. I think it is slightly different from the ususal Japanese Bush warbler which I have both recording from CD and my own DV tape. I also have recording of Mountain (Brownish-flanked) Bush Warbler from my trip to Ba Bao Shan in 1998 - but that was probably a warning call rather than spring song. So it was completely different! So are they breeding in Tai Mo Shan? Both our new bird guide and Avifauna do not mention about breeding or even over-summer bird. They used to be winter visitors and migrant only. |
