I may have a chance to go birding on a day trip in/around Perth next week. Any advice on where to go and what to look for will be very much appreciated.

As far as I know, King's Park in Perth (= Kln Park in HK) is OK.

Hi Fred,

thanks. An Australian Bird guide said the wetter southeast corner of Aussie is more interesting than the west desert coast (from Perth to Exmouth).

BTW, I have seen an Australian Bustard in early morning on a road to Ningaloo Reef Reserve, Exmouth (1000 km north of Perth).

I was in Perth & other localities in SW Australia very recently (July 26 - Aug 9th) & have done a trip report which may be of use to you.

If you'd like a copy of the report e-mail me at dadiskin@netvigator.com and I'll send it to you as an attachment.

Perth itself has a number of very good wetland sites near the centre including Lake Monger, Herdsman Lake, Perry Lakes, Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary and there are good parks like Kings Park and Bold Park.

Most of these are mentioned on http://members.iinet.com.au/~foconnor and also http://www.birdsofperth.com.
