Thanks for Owen posting the links. The China Bird Report 2003 was published and lauched a week ago at the Dongtinghu Bird Race by the China Ornithological Society (COS).

It is considered to offer some support for the COS for the future publication of the China Bird Report. We have collected some copies back to Hong Kong for distribution. Members who wish to collect a copy could also consider make a donation of, say, HK$100 or more for the future publication.

Note: while stock available

With the help and support of Hong Kong Bird Watching Society, and funded by Swarovski Optik Ltd., the China Bird Report 2003 edited by the China Ornithological Society was published in December 2004, and has since been spread domestically and internationally.

The report selected over 600 out of some 1,000 records submitted by Chinese birders in 2003, and included records of their birding in China by foreign birders from the USA, Japan, Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, and Australia etc.. In all, the 2003 report includes 857 Species under 16 Classes and 62 Families, which takes up 64.5% of the Chinese Avifauna. Detailed information of observation time, site, number and behavior is given for each bird species. The report also gives important information on species distribution, number and trend, and contains more than 40 bird photos. This is the first annual bird report of Mainland China based primarily on the records of Chinese birders. Except Hong Kong and Taiwan, which have already published their local bird reports, almost all Chinese provinces and districts are covered. Also covered are valuable data on some threatened species as well as new records for some areas. China Bird Report 2003 provides important information for non-professional birding activities and bird conservation, and is an important reference for China's ornithological research.

China Bird Report is a summary of bird records nationwide, based on bird watchers'observations. Therefore, sufficient numbers of records are indispensable for compiling every year's report. Thus, the submission of bird records by both domestic and foreign bird watchers by the end of each year is warmly welcomed and sincerely appreciated.

How to submit your records? You can choose any of the three following ways:

1. Online database: visit website http://www.cnbirder.com, register yourself as a member, and submit your records online to the "Birdtalkers, Bird-reports of China" database (detailed instructions given on the website);

2. E-mail: e-mail your records in the format of Excel, Word or PDF etc., to chinesewildbird@hotmail.com;

3. Regular mail: mail your paper records to the following address: Prof. ZhangZhengwang, College of Life Science, Beijing Normal University, Zip code:100875.
