Title: Dead Marsh Sandpipers found at Tsim Bei Tsui Post by Koel_Ko on Apr 12th, 2004, 8:54pm We visited Tsim Bei Tsui on 11.4.04 and found the following Marsh Sandpipers on the road between the post marked 958 and 959, possibly poisoned to death. They were found after 4 and was not there when we went past the spot earlier. On the same trip we had two Long-toed Stints and more than 20 Yellow Wagtails in breeding plumage. http://pic9.picturetrail.com/VOL264/2073128/4021043/50828775.jpg http://pic9.picturetrail.com/VOL264/2073128/4021043/50828769.jpg :'( We observed that this case might arise from pesticide or herbicide poisioning, similar to that noted from Long Valley earlier. We hope that the scale would not grow out of control. |

Title: Re: Dead Marsh Sandpipers found at Tsim Bei Tsui Post by Karl on Apr 12th, 2004, 9:18pm Koel, Were they all lying on the mudflat or the access road? I just wonder why shorebirds would be there on the road... |

Title: Re: Dead Marsh Sandpipers found at Tsim Bei Tsui Post by Koel_Ko on Apr 15th, 2004, 6:47pm They are all along the access road, and all looked so fresh they almost could spring back to life again.. :'( That was a day of high tide and some of the access path was flooded. No pond as far as we could see was dry enough to attract wader flocks. |
