Because of the National Day Carnival, fireworks at 6.10pm scared over 100 egrets to flee in desperate fear. 100+ of egrets flew to different directions. Most of them went to the Tolo Harbour direction. About 20 including night herons, little egrets and great egrets flew to Tai Wai.
It is a pity we can't take much photos of them. We were frightened by the fire, smoke and thunder.
They flew EXTRAORDINARY fast!! And was flapping thier wings like MAD!! :o :o
Theirs wings were blurred in the photos.
After the 5 minutes fireworks, only around 10 egrets were back. Maybe they were the latecomers who didn't see the "forest fire". :-/

They haven't returned yet. (8:30pm)
Where can they roost tonight ?

I remember I was at Tin Hau to capture the scenes of firework on Lunar New year, 2003. My location was jsut next to Victoria Park. When the firework started, the birds flew away nervously from the trees.... :-/

Egrets staying in Penfold Park were scared by the fireworks AGAIN this evening. >:(
It was Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races today and ended with fireworks at 6.10pm.
Same as 2 months before, egrets flew away in a minute. :'(

It's too bad to hear that... :'( Please keep monitoring, the collective records would reflect such kind of festive crackers are disturbance to the nature, there must have solution if we care.
