Title: Africa - Migratory Birds Poisoned, Eaten 非洲:毒殺候鳥作食 Post by 深藍 Owen on May 12th, 2005, 11:50am Migratory Birds Poisoned, Eaten Kampala, May 10, 2005 (New Vision/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Related Topics Environment OVER 80 migratory European birds were recently poisoned and eaten at the government prison farm in Namalu, Nakapiripirit district, writes Nathan Etengu. Uganda Wildlife Authority officials in Mbale said the European white stork were left to eat white ants that had been doused with waragi (local gin) mixed with diamacrone, a pesticide. The officials said the birds were picked by the trappers on April 24, after they got drunk and dehydrated. The Mt. Elgon National park ecosystem chief warden, Joseph Serugo and the assistant warden in charge of Pian-Upe wildlife sanctuary, David Abaho, said the bird trappers included warders, UPDF soldiers and residents who took the birds for food. "They disposed of the intestines and ate the meat," Abaho said. He, however, said some of the dogs and chicken at the homes where the birds were taken died after eating the intestines.
